The SP-SB23W features a composite wood cabinet enclosure that uses a superior RF heated and molded process to achieve the special curved design. Sound bars in today's market are commonly constructed in plastic enclosures. With this mode you can program your favorite remote to work with this sound bar. But if throwing in another remote to the mix isn't your thing, the speaker bar has a learning mode. Included with this package is an IR remote for control and convenience. The level of the subwoofer can be conveniently adjusted by the included remote. The 6-1/2" subwoofer is powered by a 50 watt plate amplifier built into the box. You have the option of putting this subwoofer anywhere you want to, provided it's near a power outlet. This speaker bar system from Pioneer is beautifully rounded off with a wireless powered subwoofer. The woofers are created with a vented pole piece and structured surface cone, improving the normal performance of a typical 3" woofer. The speakers included in the sound bar are four 3" structured surface mid-woofers and two 1" soft dome tweeters. By doing this, the speaker bar enhances the overall headroom at any volume. Producing up to 28 watts of power, each amplifier independently drives each speaker for a great overall dynamic response. The SP-SB23W speaker bar utilizes six amplifiers to power each driver. Throw in the built-in Bluetooth, IR remote and wireless powered subwoofer, and you've got an unstoppable package at a shockingly affordable price point. The speaker bar features a straight forward and simple interface that makes this top-shelf quality system easily accessible for users of all experience levels. Pioneer's SP-SB23W speaker bar system was designed by legendary audio engineer Andrew Jones, specifically for the audio enthusiast seeking an easy-to-use full range system. which also means you have to buy a sub capable of handling that power.might be a fun DIY project for some.Īnother option would be to just add another, more powerful subwoofer to go really deep but not sure how you would tap into audio to provide input unless your TV does RCA output at the same time as optical.Pioneer SP-SB23W Speaker Bar System with Wireless Subwoofer and Bluetooth Connectivity Theoretically, you might also be able to use the built in amp's output wires into the high level input of a larger sub amplifier like a Dayton perhaps, to provide more output power yet still keep the original EQ'ing. Subwoofer output can be fixed by taking the amp and sub into a larger enclosure with a tuned port (At 47hz to mimic the original) or 32 hz to go even deeper. This is what separates typical audiophiles and typical listeners as some have gotten used to the boosts of certain frequencies and sound fields that later become a preference or provide a quicker wow factor. Overall Review: Again the focus with this one is more sound quality and despite the rich detail, some will miss the oomph emphasis found in higher priced sound bars. Best placement is right under the bar or behind it if possible to add that cabin gain effect. Because of it's careful blending, You also cannot move the subwoofer away from the sound bar itself because it will start to disassociate the sound. The sub isn't powerful but again blends perfectly and adds much to the rich detail, you just won't feel the explosions. Rather to say it doesn't have that "wide space" or "airy" effect which really isn't much of a loss but depends on your listening desires. You can hear, very distinctively I might add, whispering and quiet talking without straining to hear.Ĭons: No virtual surround or what most sound bars have which is fake surround that's still in front of you anyway. This model really focus's on detail and sound quality. Subwoofer blends in amazingly to the bar's speakers. For the price you can't beat the rich and detailed clarity this sound bar has. BTW this product can be found for $250 at another top brick and mortar store. Price to performance ratio is spot on here. Pros: As of January 2014, Pioneer acknowledged that all new models has had the BT issue fixed and older models will continue to receive free fix.
